MERVAT NUWAYHID
Ministers to Families of Sick Children
Mervat has been in Children’s Ministry for over 24 years where she has been teaching, preparing curriculum, and helping with the training of other teachers. In the last eight years, she has been getting curriculum ready, translating it and sending to different countries.
The Lord also continues to use her home as a safe place for teenagers and others to come and learn how God can fit into their lives through fellowship, learning to pray, getting connected to others, eating, playing games and having fun.
God has also opened the door for her to reach out to families with sick children, especially those with cancer. As often is the case, God prepared her beforehand. Six years ago, Mervat’s son, Joseph (age 2) was diagnosed with leukemia. She stood next to him not knowing what everyday would bring until he went to be with the Lord at the age of 8. It was at that time she learned that “God does glow in the dark” and that all she has to do is open her eyes and her heart to see Him. This is the message that God has given her to pass along to other parents as she helps at the very same hospital where Joseph was. God has allowed her to bring His light to other families. When a family loses or is counting the days with their child, she helps them understand that God really does understand because He lost His Son, too, to give them hope for their children.
Additionally, Mervat counsels and reaches out to different women that God brings into her life with various needs and struggles.
