I want it and I want it NOW!
- by Andy Wulff
He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”(Genesis 22:2 , ESV)
Patience. It’s not my strong suit. Maybe it’s my generation, but I want it and I want it NOW! And when a promise is made, I expect it to not only be fulfilled, but to be done quickly. How about you?
Abram was given a promise by God. ‘You will birth a nation. You will have a son.’ But more than 20 years had come and gone and nothing had happened. Now he and Sarai were old and the promise seemed farfetched or even impossible.
But as God is prone to do with His promises, He fulfills them. From Abram and Sarai a son is born. The son of promise arrives. It must have been a glorious confirmation of their faith. Each time they looked into the face of their son, they could hear God’s voice.
But now, God says to do something unthinkable. ‘Take your son and sacrifice him to me.’ What? The promise was so long in being carried out. It was the impossible made reality. What would Abram do?
This Sunday, we will look into this next episode of the Story as God begins to fulfill his promise while also the faith of Abram is tested. You don’t want to miss it. In fact, why don’t you bring someone with you.
