Defeat of the serpent?
- by Andy Wulff
And Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Long ago, your fathers lived beyond the Euphrates, Terah, the father of Abraham and of Nahor; and they served other gods. Then I took your father Abraham from beyond the River and led him through all the land of Canaan, and made his offspring many. I gave him Isaac. - (Joshua 24:2-3 , ESV)
From one act of rebellion, the entire human race’s course was set. In fact, as you look at the opening chapters of Genesis things go bad, very bad, very quickly. If you were just to read Gen 1 through 11, the question would be will God’s promised defeat of the serpent even have a possibility of coming true?
As we turn the page to chapter 12, the story focuses on one childless and godless couple. But then the Almighty enters into the picture. He calls a man named Abram to follow him. God makes three promises to him, three important promises. However, these promises aren’t immediately fulfilled.
This week, we turn to the next episode in the Story - the story of Abram. To prepare your heart and mind, take a few minutes and read Genesis 12 and 15. We also will be celebrating communion together. You don’t want to miss this Sunday.
Also, let me encourage you to not give up on reading, discussing, and connecting with the Story. They say it takes 30+ days to establish a habit. You are almost there so don’t stop!
